I was recommended to Dr. Slack by a dear friend, and for the first time in a long time, I was hopeful. Hopeful that I had finally found a doctor who would see me—who would listen instead of staring at a computer screen, who would treat me as a person rather than just a chart of numbers. At first, she seemed like exactly that. My first few visits were routine annual checkups, and while she had an intense focus on my weight—regardless of the reason for my appointment—I brushed it off, believing she still had my best interests at heart. Dr. Slack was my primary care physician at MedStar and I decided to follow her when she established her private practice. During my initial visit we spent considerable time discussing my overall health, lifestyle, diet and activity level.
