AFC Urgent Care Back Bay

I am sharing my personal experience at this clinic: From my perspective, the staff appeared rushed and did not provide clear information at the beginning of my visit. I was informed that the physician would not be able to renew a prescription, which later proved to be incorrect and caused unnecessary confusion. When I met with the physician, my experience was positive. She was attentive, professional, and clear in her explanations. She confirmed that renewing the prescription was not an issue and performed a physical examination appropriately. On a subsequent visit for an imaging exam, I was asked to wear a disposable gown and walk through the reception area to reach the exam room, during which I was visible to others in the waiting area. I’ve gone to this clinic twice, once because I needed an x-ray and another time for lab work. Both experiences were great, quick and easy sign up online and was seen quickly! It’s rare for an urgent care in Boston to have an X-ray and be able to process lab work the same day! I’m very glad AFC came to Boston!

I visited this urgent care because I had flu symptoms. I ended up waiting a long time, and when I was seen, the staff basically told me to go home, drink honey water, and take over-the-counter Tylenol. I was hoping for faster relief with proper medication, but they didn’t offer any prescription or meaningful treatment. To make matters worse, I was later billed an additional fee for rapid COVID and flu tests on top of the office visit copay. I was not informed beforehand that these tests would be billed separately, which felt very frustrating. The customer service representatives I spoke with were unhelpful when I called to clarify the charges.

The nurses have no experience drawing blood or following antiseptic protocols. They left me in the room with the tourniquet on and an open/used needle beside me for around 10 minutes. After handling multiple needles and touching contaminated objects they never changed gloves or sanitized them. When they finally came to collect the blood, the whole procedure took forever due to the lack of blood flow that they blamed on me (it had never happened before). Terrible experience!!

Five stars. This is my go to stop for urgent care. I’’m usually seen fairly quickly, even without an appointment, and I’ve never had any experiences that was less than ideal. I always feel like I’m in good hands.
