Sutter Urgent Care

Took my 12 month old son to urgent care on a Thursday evening due to labored breathing. The staff and doctor were helpful. The doctor diagnosed him with croup and ran other tests such as RSV, Covid and did X-ray to rule out pneumonia. I appreciated his thoroughness. He treated my son, prescribed medication and said to come back 2 days if his condition didn’t improve. Overall, it was a good experience for having to go to urgent care.

DO NOT COME HERE. You will regret it. I went to Sutter Health Urgent Care for a basic respiratory virus. There were around 10 people waiting on a weekday evening, yet it took almost three hours to be seen. The clinic is woefully understaffed, and to be clear, I do not blame the doctors or staff. They were very competent and working extremely hard in an impossible setup. The visit itself lasted only a few minutes. I got a prescription for cough medicine and a respiratory PCR test. That’s it. The bill came out to $1,076. Insurance paid $198. I owed $877. I asked billing to review it, to which they responded that everything was coded correctly and the charges stand. This is the business model. Capture patients when they're sick and desperate. Keep them waiting for hours in an understaffed

Went in off peak hours check in are smooth. However, it took a long time to get transfer to different clinicians. I was recommend to do ECG and X-RAY but without any paper documentations of what is going on just end up verbally telling me there was nothing going wrong. It turned out to bill 3 separate things in one visit and the insurance is not taking into account as one thing. Somehow there are some communications were lost in the process.

The Sutter East Bay urgent care facility on Milvia Street in Berkeley is a good thing – I've used it twice in the last year, with great results. Advance scheduling is efficient and flexible. I was admitted quickly and only had to wait 15 minutes or so, the medical techs and doctors are pleasant and competent. I hot a chest Xray right away after my doctor's consultation, and the results (reassuringly negative) were available online almost instantly. Free parking right out front, no hassle. This is the best urgent care service I've used.

Registration was fine, it was the back office and provider that is questionable - The PA was unsure how to move forward with the treatment as I recently been discharge a couple of days from the hospital with a pacemaker and needed Albuterol for a bad cough. The PA wanted to do a series of test and do an EKG but we had declined because of the recent implant of the device. I had instructed the PA to please just prescribe Albuterol and a cough suppressant. That same day, in the afternoon, I needed a spacer as the coordination of inhaling was nearly impossible. The staff said that they would place the request on the PAs desk and they would sign it in between patients. My pharmacy never received it that afternoon, nor the next day - Saturday.
