UPMC Altoona

DO NOT GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM HERE!!!! My sister waited 16 hours to be transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with a hole in her skull and metal protruding from a prior craniotomy performed there when they had a neurosurgical department. Could have driven her myself if I would have known this! When she was finally on her way to Pittsburgh the administration called to say this was not their fault but the transportation companies fault. SO BEWARE!!!!!

We had a pediatric emergency while driving through Altoona and were so grateful for the whole er team. The wait was long, but comfortable, and the staff attending was kind and patient. Once seen, they treated our child with instead care and love, and made us parents feel at ease. I could almost call the experience fun, it was that pleasant at the end of the day. Plus, their therapy dog was such a nice bonus. Thank you for making a traumatic night a gentle memory. We are forever in debt to the staff

Within a 35 minute drive to the hospital I bled through a new maxi pad, my underwear, and pants. I was then visited by Isabella Tuttoilmondo, with a soft calming smile she started to answer my panicked questions. Assuring me I would be taken care of by good people. More intense bleeding and being separated from my sister for my ultrasound had me bawling. I was petrified. Afterwards I was met by Dr. Diane Adams, she gingerly held my leg, explained what was happening, how she would fix it and gave me the best reassurance I could ever hear, “I’ll have you back home to your son in a few hours.” In that moment she was the most angelic person on earth. Our sister was admitted to the ICU for severe dehydration and septic shock. The nursing home nearby sent her to the er after family members voiced concerns about health. She has been in the cardiac ICU for weeks and the doctors have been excellent and the nursing staff has been amazing. In my opinion they are the most supportive, dedicated, caring and compassionate staff any patient could ever hope to have. Especially one nurse who decorated my sisters room for Christmas! We love and appreciate you all so much!!!

This review is for the MRI department. My 9 year old son had to have 3 different MRIs on his spine on 11/11, and the technologist (I hope that's the right term) named Jeffrey was so kind and patient with him, since of course he was a little nervous. I felt like we were really taken care of and that he was in good hands. There was a woman working with Jeffrey who was wonderful as well, but unfortunately I don't remember her name. Everyone else we encountered while checking in, etc. was great too. I was pleased with our experience.
