POLYTRAUMA & REHABILITATION CENTER AT AUDIE L MURPHY MEMORIAL VAMC

Very few of the staff here care enough about the patients to truly work as a team. The CNAs are glorified babysitters and sit around on their phones, refusing to take patients to the bathroom if they are not able to go by themselves. My daughter was here with a brain injury about 3 years ago and was starting to recover (speaking, reading, writing, able to stand with assistance, used both hands and arms, even able to eat some food) until she started struggling to perform the tasks and the nurses and CNAs started speaking negatively to and about her. She was put in bed any time they could get her to say yes to being tired, but I was told they couldn’t trust her when she said yes to needing to go to the bathroom because “she wasn’t accurate with her yeses and nos.” The nurses and CNAs also re

The therapists and doctor are great and only a few nurses. Most of the nurses should be hospice because that’s all they seem to want to do is sit around and eat and chit chat waiting for your loved one to become so depressed they too do not care about themselves anymore. This facilities nursing staff should be investigated and revamped. My neice can do alot and could be doing more, but these lazy nurses love to cite “it isn’t safe” and the head nurse allows it. They are not patient and your loved one will not excel here unless all care staff is supportive and helpful to their patient. My niece stopped doing a lot of what she was capable of because they squashed her at every chance. Our level of care for veterans is disgusting and very eye opening.

Both in patient and out patient physical, occupational, recreational and speech therapy after Covid + stroke. Wonderful, caring and competent staff. Everyone would go over and above to get me back to pretty near normal. Tough coaches who never gave in or up but always monitored everything so you were not pushed to far. I can't say enough good things about them. Considering what they could get paid going a block or two down the street, the word heroes does come to mind.

My son is Alex ortiz he has severe tbi.and a lot of other health issues.long story short my son was left in bile multiple times on his private area and butt and stomach,leg.which bile is stomach acid and can burnskin . from old peg tube friday,and Saturday I was requesting to see the doctor Friday one didn’t come until over 38 hours.and after the situation continued to get worse.then when the resident did come she had the nerve to come at me in aggressive matter for saying this is unacceptable to leave my son how can’t say it burns him like that .then when I meet up with professional team today .they say your talking about taking your son to a different facility.we think you should just take him to a different facility.they wouldn’t even listen.this tubing is designed as a close unit line
