Mayo Clinic Urology

I have a complicated history of chronic UTIs and blood in my urine. My last urologist was unable to figure out the cause of my chronic UTIs and blood in urine—instead dismissing me and stating that blood in urine is completely normal and it happens all the time to men, women, and children. My primary care condemned my former urologist’s opinion and recommended seeking a second opinion. I called to make an appointment at Mayo Clinic. During the call I mentioned my current urinary and bladder pain as well as my history of chronic UTIs and blood in urine. At the end of the call I was told I would receive a phone call back confirming the date and time of my appointment. About a week later, I receive a letter in the mail from Mayo Clinic's urology department instead denying my appointment reque

I had a mixed experience here at mayo. I am a transgender person who just had surgery here at mayo and I feel like they could really use some education that way. The nursing staff was great! Zero complains with them. My surgeon, Dr Khan was fantastic and I am very happy with the job she did. The team she used for the surgery could use some training in bedside manner and dealing with transgender folks. I heard a them misgender me and talk not so pleasantly about me when they thought I was out. All in all I am satisfied with my visit and would recommend Mayo for people to receive surgeries.

My mom was hospitalized at Mayo Phoenix with a UTI and complications, at discharge she was referred to Mayo Urology for follow up care with urgent testing required. I called after discharge and was told her case was triaged and “denied”. I asked if there was an appeal process or if there was any other information needed or anything at all I could do or speak to someone else and though the person was nice, they basically gave me zero helpful information. The only information she said was if we have more medical records submitted, we will reevaluate. And then asked what they were looking for in those records and she said she does not know. This is very frustrating. It is not it is not the patient centric care that I expect of Mayo.
