HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Emergency and Trauma

Came in with severe pain in shoulder and arm. Horrible intermittent spasms + nerve pain. I am non-verbal and use my phone to communicate and was treated like a nuisance. The lack of patience from the staff was frustrating and embarrassing the disbelief of the PA when I showed him my notes (that he rapid glanced through). I got offered Valium and ibuprofen, both of which are completely ineffective. They refused to give me anything else. I am a chronic pain patient. I use high strength medications (like hydrocodone) almost never. I had a hysterectomy and needed zero pain management for that, so consider how much pain I was in to go to the ER for an arm. I had spasms while there and cried so hard I peed my pants. I got offered an ice pack. I told them off about treating me like a drug seeke

This review does not reflect the surgical care, or the normal workings of St Vincent. This is just for the ER which is staffed by outsourced “privately contracted” providers. Terrible experience. Was there in January after being told on the phone to come in. Sat in the ghost town of a waiting room for 2.5 hours while in constant excruciating pain. Finally got a room and was rushed to get a CT scan. Waited around for an hour and finally was seen by a “provider” for 5 minutes who basically walked in, told me he was unsure what was going on, that they couldn’t do anything for me, and that I was to be discharged, and to let them know if it got worse as I was bleeding internally. Brought my girlfriend into emergency room after having a gran mal seizure, at check in we waited 45 min to get to a room, another hour before seeing a doctor. 3 hours before they decided to do a ct scan. All this time with her vomiting and writhing in pain. After pushing the red emergency button because of the pain level on the bed monitor, the nurse said someone would be right in....30 minutes later two tylenol were administered which were promptly vomited back up. Nothing else for the pain was given or even mentioned. Finally after 4.5 hours they gave her nausea meds and a iv which they didn't even allow to finish and sent us on or way. They way you have to park across the street from the ER is not right. Im already in a hurry to see my son hit by a car. Then I have to go check in with the entrance guy across the street at the hospital to park. Have a number on the sign to call and gain access. Backing out onto Webster is very dangerous. This is not safe. Or better yet put a person over there at the gate.
