Holy Family Hospital – Methuen

I've been in St. Mike's 3 times and St. Dymphna's twice. They are strict about what you can have and can't, and some of their rules weren't consistent such as the hat and piercings policies. St. Mike's does not have working hallway phones so we have to use a cordless one. I do wish there were more vegan options regarding milks. Whenever I requested soy milk, I was sent lactose free, which was not the same thing as plant-based. Aside from that, most of the staff were lovely. Dennis was a sweetheart, as well as Lucy, Jeff, Laurie, Reyna, Peter, and more. Yolanda was an amazing OT as well. She listened to my concerns regarding being misgendered and decided to try to incorporating asking for pronouns during community meetings. I never thought I’d be writing a review for a hospital, but this place truly deserves it. I brought my husband here a couple of years ago, and the care we received was absolutely outstanding. Every doctor, nurse, and staff member treated us with kindness, compassion, and professionalism. We moved and had to go to another hospital, and let me tell you...nowhere compares to this one. The level of care, attention, and genuine concern for patients here is unmatched. I’m so grateful for everything they did for us and wish we still lived close enough to come back. Highly recommend this hospital to anyone who wants not just excellent medical care, but people who truly care.

I’m only giving one star because I HAVE to. This was one of the worst hospital experiences I’ve ever had. My child and I waited over six hours in the emergency room waiting area with no updates, even after being told multiple times that we would be seen “next.” Several other patients left after waiting for hours as well. When I asked for an update, I was told, “We’ll get to you when we can,” which felt incredibly dismissive. We eventually left and went to Haverhill, where we were seen right away. The lack of communication, compassion, and efficiency at this hospital is completely unacceptable — especially in an emergency setting. I would not recommend coming here if you need timely or attentive care.

Started out at Holy Family in Haverhill with my wife and had to be transferred to Holy Family in Methuen because Haverhill doesn’t have an MRI. My wife got to the hospital at 4 AM and didn’t get her MRI until 7 PM. We almost went 24 hours total at both ERs before she got the MRI. In the time we were at Methuen the nurse came by once. My wife was not offered breakfast, lunch or dinner. The nursing staff had no clue what was going on and the level of care was so bad I will not come back to either of these hospitals even if it’s a life or death emergency and it’s the closest available.

If I could give zero stars, I would. What I experienced at Holy Family Hospital’s emergency department was nothing short of neglect, cruelty, and a complete failure of basic medical care. On Monday, September 1st, I arrived with the worst headache of my life, sudden, severe pain with nausea, vomiting, neck pain, blurred vision, and numbness in my hands. These are textbook neurological red flags. Instead of being treated as the life-threatening emergency it was, I was left in triage for over an hour, actively vomiting and crying out for help, only to be told multiple times to “quiet down.” Staff sat at the nurses’ station eating dinner while I was screaming on a stretcher.
