as someone from the mainland, for the area, it's not bad care. but in comparison to the better medical care you can receive on the mainland, it's not the best. the staff were all very nice, accommodating, and helpful. i also went in an ambulance to Kona Community Hospital, and if i had to choose between the two, I would choose Hilo.

I was visiting family and started having alarming symptoms. Swelling in feet legs and left ear. Broken blood vessels and dizziness and chest pressure. Went to urgent care in Keaau and was sent to ER by them because of my cardiac history and a BP of 187/97. Got to the ER they checked me in and took vitals and I waited two plus hours in the lobby before they brought me back. The nurses where super nice but the ER doctor was horrible! He came in asked if I was there because of my BP (which is now 200/120) because if so we do not treat BP in the ER and discharged me. With a BP that high I could have had a stroke or heart attack. I leave the island a week later to get back to Ohio and doctors here do testing to find 80% blockage in my artery and put in a stent. I am sure glad HBMC helped me...

icame in as victim of a violent crime. Everyone were great including the police who stayed with me. The medical staff kept me informed about what and why they were doing. It was serious so i espeially appreicated the support. They were busy but very professional, informative and supportive.

"Unko Ray" I'm writing this letter for my brother. I'm sure you've heard this before " Don't go to Hilo ER" well let me tell you that the hospital had really changed for the better. My brother went into ER and was quickly assessed, treated, and admitted under the care of Dr. Rhuland. There were many layers of doctors, nurse aid, nurses and specialty departments that gave GREAT bedside manners, but most importantly they expedited each order as it was explained to us clearly. This NEW feature app MyChart allowed me to track my brothers test results before the doctor came in. We (my brother and I) appreciate every wonderful staff. They ALL were very professional, caring, concerned, and most importantly FAST. Yes you go into ER, do your labs etc, and then wait. Please under

Worst ER experience of my life as a patient. I've spent years in Healthcare and I've never seen such negligence. I was given medication and not a single staff member asked how it affected me or if the hurt or helped my symptoms. The ER Dr never reviewed my chart before seeing me, spent 1 min in the room with me the entire 5 hrs I was in the er, and was going to discharge me without even speaking with me, and when I got upset, tried so gaslight me into believing I was being unreasonable, "of course" he was going to discharge me, but that was only after the nurse informed him I was really upset, but to him as long as he fairly sure it wasn't life threatening I should be ok. I left the hospital with no diagnosis, no medication, no discussion, and no care or caring from this hospital. They h
