The most positive thing I can say about this facility is that it’s usually very clean and doesn’t smell badly compared to other nursing homes that have a terrible smell as soon as you walk in. Unfortunately there are far more negative things to say. CNA’s are a lot more hard working than nurses, 98% of nurses are not friendly nor patient with residents, I’ve seen several staff take A LOT of smoke breaks during their shift, administrative staff lacks empathy or answers to majority of questions I had about my fathers bruises or lost items from his room. Along with his clothes, my father’s blankets were used by other people without permission even though his name was on the tags mind you. They are quick to use sedative drugs to make their job easier. This place loves to tell you they are “4 Star Rated” to justify why one/one’s family should trust their life to them. With many years of Medicare & Medicaid inspection experience plus hospital (the old JCAH), I know how some facilities gear up for these, but do little to nothing to maintain standards of care to pass these inspections. Highland falls short in so many ways except cleanliness; no smells of urine. Highland basically provides food, shelter, and some continuity of care. Departmental communication seems lacking. As stated in a previous review there are too many negatives. Management & administration-in general, character is questionable. I have my father here, the staff is not quit friendly, when ask for help. They make comments when I take my dad out for the day. I was sent a letter for care plan, no one knew anything about it. The ADON said she would tell the person who shedules them. Never got an answer. It's been a month now. I wish I can take him out. ....... On February 22, 2022 I was transferring my father to another Facility the Administrator Michael and the Business Office Mary/ CNA, and CNA Shelby were blocking my father's doorway of his room. The Administrator said that my father wasn't going anywhere, I explained to him that I was the POA of my father. Facility has the smell of death in the air. Ask staff question they are unable to provide answers and often say this isn't my patient and problem. It is definitely smells of urine and fecal matter that would cause Satan Himself to vomit with how grotesque the smell is. Your worst enemy don't deserve to go here. Please consider another facility for your love ones.
