Cooley Dickinson, Urgent Care (Amherst)

Went to the Cooley Dickinson urgent care in Northampton yesterday and had a very negative visit. Today I went to the facility in Amherst and had a great visit. The PA examined my finger and suggested to go to the Ortho Urgent Care. She gave me the directions to the ortho urgent care and recommended some interventions until tomorrow morning. Would absolutely recommend this facility in Amherst.

I got to the front desk on 02/03/26 at 2:30 in the afternoon and the nurse asked me what was going on. I started explaining my symptoms (vomiting blood) and she interrupted me and said “You’re dehydrated?” We can’t do anything for that. You have to go to Northampton.” I think she saw the Gatorade bottle in my hand and assumed I was a hung-over college kid. I went to Northampton to have them tell me I needed an emergency appendectomy… what I’m confused about is why the health care professional in Amherst did not see/hear my symptoms and immediately call for an ambulance to transport me to Northampton... I was hunched over, having trouble speaking and said I was vomiting blood… the pain I suffered for hours in the ER could have very easily been avoided if health care professionals actually d

I had to bring my 6 year old in to be seen. Was relieved that they see kids this age (as minute clinic does not). The staff were very kind. Service was quick. She was treated. We were in and out. This will be our new go-to!

I left after waiting more than 2 hours of not being seen with the hives all over my face and body getting worse by the minute. The wait here I've been told is always 2-3 hours+ . Be prepared, you will be here all day. I suggest you go to a different urgent care. The ER is way too expensive and most doctors offices nowadays are so swamped that they can't even see anyone for an urgent visit. Why is the medical system in the U.S so truly horrible for everyone that's not rich? This is depressing and exhausting.

I have been to this urgent care several times. My issues have been resolved. Most recently I had a very bad breathing issue. I didn't wait long, and they tested me for several things. They explained that the test would take about 45 minutes to show results. I was given the proper medication, and honestly started to feel better upon leaving, because the person who treated me was so caring. I wish I remembered her name. The front desk staff was not #1, but the medical care has been #1 in my opinion.
