UPMC West Shore

We showed up to the ER per doctor's advisement for pneumonia-related issues around 11 am, and we were tended to immediately. At the time, we were one of three groups of patients in the waiting room. After initial check in & vitals were taken, there has been a lot of waiting.. now the waiting room is filled, and we've been waiting more than two hours to be taken back for further analysis. I want to emphasize the waiting room was essentially empty when we first arrived. Staff seems nice, and the place is clean... but it would be nice to know what we're waiting on... I assume the illness is being taken seriously? It is now about 130 pm, and no one has an answer for the wait.

I arrived at ER on Friday 12-5-2025 in pretty bad shape. Immediately the staff attended to me and had me registered and in a room on 5th floor. Things turned worse overnight and an entire team rushed me to ICU early Saturday morning. I had pneumonia in my right lung and sepsis. I don't have great recollection of the rest of Saturday and most of Sunday except for the chest tube, oxygen and all the wires hooked up to me. An additional chest tube was required later (don't recommend ever having that done lol). After 10 days in ICU and 3 days on 5th floor, I was discharged today. Bottom line is the entire staff (nurses, thoracic team, PT, Occupational therapy, Infectious disease team, Endocrinologist, hospitalist team, transport team, X-ray and CT, house keeping and food services) enabled me to

WARNING ⚠️ 💀 ☠️ Long Wait Times: DO NOT come here! My wife had a fever which was concerning because she had a minor surgical procedure a few days ago. The on call nurse said to visit the ER to be seen. NINE (9) HOURS LATER I am sitting in my car in the parking lot wondering how this hospital has not been investigated. This is not healthcare. This is sick care. Regardless of staffing shortages, this is not how you treat patients.

I came to this ER four days post-operative after being explicitly instructed by my on-call provider to seek emergency care for a documented fever at home, chills, cramping, and incision concerns. I waited over TEN hours. When we pulled in, there wasn’t any open seats. Standing room only essentially. I only came here because my surgeon was from UPMC and I wanted the ER to have all the records and documentation of my surgery. During that time, one “normal” temperature reading was treated as if it invalidated everything else the fever I had at home, the active shivering, the post-surgical pain, and the reason I was sent in. What on earth is wrong with your Emergency room??? Shame on us for giving it another shot. You consistently have the longest wait times in Central PA! Soviet Russian hospitals were probably more prompt. It's such a shame to have such an aesthetically pleasing, conveniently located hospital on the West Shore, but to have to avoid its ER like the plague since you'll probably die of old age before being seen.
