UAB Freestanding Emergency Department of Gardendale

Drive your loved one to Birmingham please! I brought my daughter here, they refused to give her a steroid or treat her at all secondary to their evaluation. I drove her to Birmingham and she had Covid and step throat and needed IV steroids and antibiotics because one of her tonsils had abscessed (she is an adult). Young ER physician AND nurse practically laughed in my face. They don't deserve the 2.9 rating I'm looking at right now I hope it's lowered.

Came in with breathing problems and shortness of breath. I had no wait. I felt cared for. They were thorough with their examination and did many tests. They sent me home with a treatment plan. I will always choose them over the main hospital. No matter what Trump admin says, my nurse was/is a professional to me and will always be essential. Thank you for taking good care of me, Rene!

2 stars only because the night shift doctors & nurses were amazing. the morning shift doctor was absolutely TERRIBLE! he came in 1 time to introduce himself and told me that the previous doctor wrongly allowed my daughter to be admitted to the hospital and that if we wanted to still be admitted it would be over a 12 hour wait. my daughter was extremely dehydrated so the night nurses gave her a iv, the morning nurse took it out since "we were being transferred" i requested to be discharged so i could bring my daughter myself and the morning doctor did not even come in to communicate it with us. horrible experience. also, when we got to childrens because of the state my 1 year old was in they admitted us IMMEDIATELY! the drive over was longer then what it took to go from triage to a room. so

I can state unequivocally that the low rating is well earned. After being sent here upon the referral of a doctor at UAB, we have been here for 4 hours and are waiting for them to take my quadriplegic wife by ambulance to the main emergency room downtown. It was explained to us by the surgical doctor in charge that they do not staff personnel to perform services such as MRI’s after hours. He said the good news was that they have people who do that downtown at the main hospital, although it would likely take all night. Which isn’t much longer as it’s midnight now.

Had a wonderful and very thorough visit to the Freestanding ER UAB in Gardendale. I was terrified as I woke up with worse vision in one eye and my pupils were very different in size. So fearing a stroke I was terrified and having panic attacks. Everyone was so nice and my nurse Kristen was amazing and made me feel so calm. She is an angel 😇 My Dr was Dr Kirby? Who was very kind and patient with me and trusted what I was saying which is rare. I will go there again and highly recommend. Still not sure what it was but after a CT on my head and neck it was not a stroke ❤️🙏❤️. They gave me referrals so I have appointments with an Endocrinologist and appt with Eye Foundation Hospital next week. I’m going to keep fighting to get well ❤️‍🩹
