The University of Kansas Hospital Emergency Department

Simply put there’s a reason they only have 1.9 stars and if I had the option to select zero stars I would. We waited over 4.5 hours and still never seen by a provider. Suffering from breathing issues and a chronic illness, in a slow time for the Emergency Department. Didn’t make sense why it was taking this long. The nursing staff is extremely unhelpful and far from professional. I’ve tried to give KU plenty of opportunities, but this was the last straw. KU has a horrible track record and you’re better off going to another health system.

If you come in via ambulance for trauma, stroke, or heart attack, you're in the perfect ER. KU is the best in the area for life threatening illness and they will give you the fastest and best treatment anywhere. BUT if you're in the ER for *any* other reason, this is not the place for you!!!! We waited 3 hours in the packed waiting room with people vomiting profusely around us, and eventually left. The ER was so backed up that they were wheeling people back for blood work and bringing them *back* to the waiting room to wait for results. We eventually left and drove straight to AdventHealth ER on College Boulevard. We were seen immediately, treated, and out the door in an hour and a half total! I cannot sing the praises of AdeventHealth ER on College Boulevard enough!!!

The ER went above and beyond in a scary moment I had waking uo not being able to breathe and choking they did tests and scans and helped me figure out and treat with medicine and very welcoming and kind and prompt especially for being low staff right now. Thank you for serving I appreciate each and every one of you! Nurse Kerry and Doctor Edward's, Doctor Che, are very knowledgeable and kind and the whole staff. Ty all

Was sent to the er from a KU urgent care with a diagnosed broken arm that we were told need immediate surgery. 2.5 hours later they have lost the x-rays, have yet to see the pt and no pain medications for a broken bone. Left for another hospital as the staff was a joke. Prior to leaving we checked in with staff to see about a possible estimate on time, location on the list, or any pain medications, staff was unhelpful and didn’t listen to anything they were told, as they “didn’t know the arm was broken today” and that we were sent by their own urgent care. Do not recommend. Turns out the pt had more than 1 broken bone they had 5. Thanks for nothing KU.

Took my son in last night. And this review isn't really about the staff, they were great but we got there at 345pm didn't see a nurse for 3 hours. Resident came in 2 hours later then doctor 1 hour later. My 6 year old son was thirsty and in pain for a open cut he needed stitches on. And didn't get any work until 930pm. Got discharged at 11pm. And on top of this one 1 nurse lady with the worst bed side manners who wasn't even a part of our team walked in and said "sup" and walked out.
