I had horrible abdominal pain and the doctor gave me pain medicine that stopped it. I didn't receive a written diagnosis but was verbally told it was food poisoning. I had the same pain a few weeks later and went to a different ER. They diagnosed it as a gangrenous gallbladder and removed it. I am thankful I went elsewhere the second time and lived.

Beware of billing practices. I was sent to collections for a bill I paid a year and a half ago after I called them 4 times and emailed them all the proof that I had paid it. They told me no news is good news so I don't need to keep calling them back to check on it. A year and a half later I get a bill from collections. I shouldn't have to waste this much of my life proving that I paid for something and now dealing with collections when I have never paid anything late in my life. It's not even a big bill. I've spent more than $51 of my time now but it's the principle of it at this point.

I understand you can’t choose your care when you visit an emergency room, but ER Physicians of Indianapolis (via St. Francis on Stop 11 in Indianapolis) has been the worst billing experience I’ve ever encountered—and I have extensive experience with medical billing across top facilities in the nation such as Mayo Clinic. As a result of this, we travel longer distances to another hospital, rather than ever return to St. Francis on Stop 11 Road. They failed to submit two ER claims to insurance on time, resulting in denials. Rather than honoring their contractual obligation to charge the insurance-negotiated rate, they have billed the full, inflated self-pay amounts. I had to wait in the waiting area for an hour before being seen, but in that time the nurses were attentive and helpful. Every staff member I encountered was friendly. The doctor was thorough and the PA that treated my injury was so nice and empathetic. Always my hospital of choice!

They sent my bill to collections without notifying me leading to a mark on my credit report.
