The Dental Specialist - Homewood

Please consider this review if you are like me and rely on an office of friendly people to make you comfortable with medical procedures: I had previously had a consultation to have my wisdom teeth removed at a different business a few years ago. It was wildly expensive and I put it off. Flash forward to this fall I decided to commit and get it done and ended up at the Dental Specialist of Homewood to start all over again. Their prices were WAY better and everyone was SO nice. I cannot stress enough how kind they are and how comfortable they will make you feel. I have never had any type of surgery so this was a big deal and they made it so much easier. After the extractions I had little pain and stopped the pain medication after the first few days. Terrible! Front desk was amazing. The female dentist or assistant whatever she is was awful. They color matched me but didn’t advise me they had two different types of crowns. I expressed my dislike for the crown when it arrived and she said they gave me an option, when the girl that color matched me never told me they had a porcelain option that looks more natural. I went to another dentist who was brutally honest and told me the crown was hideous and the root canal was mediocre (based on the X-ray). The “root canal” still hurts so it was a waste of time and money going to this place.

This place is great. Friendly staff at the desk and the Dr and tech are beyond great. I got a root canal on a back tooth and felt no pain the entire time. They were quick to get me in and the procedure was a lot faster and LOT less pain then having my regular dentist do it.

Received a statement today with a past due balance from services performed over a year ago. When I called stating insurance amount was verified at point of service and I paid the difference before the Doctor would work on my tooth. I was told, "WE HAVE A NEW BILLING SYSTEM and I'm responsible for the difference and will be turned over for collection if I refuse to pay the difference". For me, it's not a lot of money, yet might not be the case for other patients falling victim to the past due balances they are unware of more then a year later. I'll be looking into if they can legally turn patients over to collections with non contact for balances over a year old.

I had a root canal done here today. Dr. Fuwad was great, and had a since of humor. I liked that he consistently asked if I was ok or if I was experiencing any pain during the procedure. I was a nervous reck but to my surprise no pain even when the numbness wore off. Joshua the dental assistant was nice, Office staff were nice.
