Scheiner Elana OD

I brought my 4-year-old son, who is blind, to see Dr. Scheiner to determine if he had any functional vision. (His condition is degenerative, and at the time it appeared he did have some vision). She gave him a low vision test, and asked him to identify different shapes and icons. When he couldn’t see them and didn’t answer, she told me he must be “cognitively delayed”. He’s 8 now and reading at an 8th grade level. He clearly did not have any cognitive delays, he just couldn’t see what she was asking him to identify. I think it was highly unprofessional of her to try and diagnose him with something outside of her field.
