Sage Dental of Lakewood Ranch

My insurance recently changed, so I had to find a new dentist. I wish I had read the reviews before scheduling this appointment. When I arrived, I was taken back for X-rays and then had my gums measured, which is something I’ve had done many times before and wasn’t concerned about. After that, the dentist came in and recommended several treatments. Then the office manager came in to review the costs with me. Some preventive services were suggested, and I understand that I do need a few things. However, I was there for a routine cleaning. I was told they would only perform a “deep cleaning” at a cost of $600. I declined and asked for a standard cleaning instead. I have been going to this place well over 8 yrs. Here in Lakewood Sarasota. This place used to be cornerstone. I only went twice a year for my cleaning. I had this silver filling when I was child and told to change it, said ok. Well the dr had to do it twice since the pain it caused. The first time there were pockets and so he redone it, but this time it must of went so close to the nerve that it is now costing me to get a root canal. I never had this nor any major work. I went couple places for opinions, and apparently the doctor went too close and I do need in fact a root canal because the nerve got affected and died. I had similar experiences at Sage Dental in Lakewood Ranch as mentioned in other 1 star reviews. I went in for a routine cleaning and was handed a $2000+ treatment plan that included periodontal work and 2 crowns. I said I would think about it and asked them to proceed with my cleaning. The hygienist refused. I indicated I was leaving town for an extended period and needed my teeth cleaned. She refused again and said it would be illegal, yes, illegal, to clean my teeth because the periodontal work needed to be done first. I went to another dentist and paid out of pocket to get a full set of X-rays, a cleaning, and an exam. I did not tell them about my Sage Dental visit. Well today I had a truly exceptional visit at Sage Dental of Lakewood Ranch. Laura, the hygienist, was compassionate, reassuring, and excellent at getting my teeth cleaned of all the build up tarter. Dr Totora is a truly talented dentist with a kind and gentle touch!

I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the office and the kindness of the staff! The receptionists were cheerful, the hygienist was gentle and explained everything, and Dr. Totera was so knowledgeable! What I appreciated most was his conservative approach to my care, and treating me like he would (in his own words) as his own daughter. Going to the dentist is a fear of mine, but they made it doable.
