Prisma Health Children's Hospital–Midlands

My overall experience with Prisma Health has been excellent. Especially in comparison to the other local hospital. My waiting room times are short and generally my appointments last about an hour or less. Without their financial assistance program I would not be able to afford to get the care that I need. I mention this because I've been a regular patient of Prisma Health since 2019 and have seen numerous providers and I feel like I have received the same level of care that I would if I had private insurance. That makes them exceptional in my opinion.

Our 6 year old daughter had an appointment scheduled for an MRI, when we came through the front door we were detained by security and interrogated about which of our children had an appointment. We also had our 1 week old boy with us. I replied that we have an appointment and the security woman said "that child can go ,and that child has to go back to the car" not only rude but loudly and pointing outside with a lobby full of children and patients. Well, it broke all of us in such a stressful moment for us not knowing whether our child may have cancer ,it felt as if we were in trouble for simply wanting to go with our little girl to the big scary MRI machine. I had such a good experience at this Hospital that I wanted to make sure I left a review. So I found out that my son needed surgery.And I was so nervous about it.But I called the hospital to ask questions and a staff member at the hospital reassured me that my son would be just fine.They pointed out that they do surgeries all the timeMy son's doctor was Dr.Penna and he is a really good doctor he explained everything to us.He is very professional.The anesthesiologist and the nurses explained different things to us.They have little cars for the kids to play with and other toys while you wait.They will tell you a lot of different information so you might not remember everything they say. Like some others in the waiting room forgot that earlier they tell you that only one person can go to the

5 stars only because staff and dr penna was amazing. However, when checking in i was profusely apologizing to the receptionist because i left my childs insurance card at home and was only able to provide the id number for it at the time and she said she hoped i was sorry... Which i felt was wildly unprofessional and weird to say. I was already tore up in knots about my son having surgery and this was not the first interaction needed to be for me so early in the morning... Emailed the card over the next morning and found out the info was manually inputed when i was told by her she could not find it in the system so im confused how that happened.

Haven't had to go here since my 6-year-old Little was born. But I can tell you that the have the best NICU! The Specialists and nurses that attended to my Little went above and beyond for me and my Little! The receptionist nurse was a bit stiff and curt though. But don't let that stop you. *****
