Orchid Cove

This was one of the worst places I've been to. My mother was there for a month for rehabilitation. When she first went in she was transferred from the hospital where she had been on life support. She was wearing diapers and couldn't do anything for herself. I live over a hour away so I couldn't be there everyday. This place was so bad. They wouldn't change her, called her stinky.... And complained anytime she had a bowel movement. Made her feel like she was so nasty for not being able to go to the toilet. They would throw her dirty soiled laundry in the corner where it would stay for days. Anytime I visited there were screams coming from behind closed doors.... My mother went hours and hours without being given anything to drink. I would call and they would hang up on me or tell me they co

Do NOT bring your loved ones here. Melanie Layton, the administrator of this facility, did not even offer her condolences. My loved one passed within less than 24 hours of being in this facility and nobody contacted us. All of the questions we asked her about why we weren’t contacted she answered with an “I don’t know.” We were going to transfer our loved one out of this place the very next day, but it was too late. Save yourself the heartbreak!

I want to start off by saying that not everyone who works here is disrespectful or ignorant. I have met some great nurses and CNAs here. I also acknowledge that the environment in any nursing home will never be a pleasant experience, I wasn't expecting perfection when I came here. I'm 20 years old, I'm in a wheelchair, and was sent here for rehab after breaking my femur. I've been living here for two months, and I'll be leaving next week. I almost scrapped this entire review, thinking it's pointless, but I want to speak up about my experience. There are some people who work here consistently but most of the time you will have a new aid and nurse every morning, day, and night. My husband and I met with the Administrator of Orchid Cove at Clearwater who took us for a tour of this wonderful facility. It felt like home! Staff were professional and caring, which goes a long way to help others in their search for the best senior care possible. Please check out this place, you will not regret it.

My mom and sister are here. The social director and the upper level management do listen when there are concerns. Overall they receive good care here. There are a few aides who have needed to be addressed, and the ant issue referenced elsewhere was a problem (but they took steps to address it, which was great). The biggest issue I see at this facility is that clothing seems to go off into the laundry and disappear for weeks or months at a time, if not forever, even with names written on the items. I have brought this up in the past and was assured it was to be addressed with the "new person working in laundry", yet the same problem still persists (my mom's Mets blanket is gone, my sister's Mickey mouse shirts have both disappeared and seem to be gone for good).
