A great experience when my Grandma first was accepted 3 years ago. Now, inexperienced staff at all levels...who clearly are not focused on what is best for the patients, instead what is easier for them. The LACK of quality care has sent her to the ER twice this month, Feb 2016, Our VETERANS deserve better care. Excuses will be made, but they are just that..excuses. I highly recommend a unannounced walk-in visit, IF your considering admitting family, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Just had a great experience with the Mount Vernon Missouri Veterans Home, as I traveled from Texas to settle my 87 year old father in as a new resident. All the staff were responsive, efficient and genuinely kind and respectful with my my dad, a Korean war veteran. I have worked in health care for many years and been in many nursing homes ( from some of the best to some of the worse) as part of my work duties, so I am not easily impressed. I was particularly impressed with Cari Paynter, the Social Worker since she had familiarized herself with my father's background in advance, thus allowing the team of workers to provide high quality, individualized care to dad from the moment he stepped onto the unit. Based on my experiences, this is as good as it gets.

My father is at this facility! He was there less than a week and the Social work informed me she knew my father better than I do! What a horrible first impression! 1.She needs some compassion 2. She needs to find a new field, she is obviously lacking in social skills! I have visited my father often and Everytime I have a question I get a different answer from different staff!!! I have a really big problem with the care not only is my father getting but all the other patients on the D wing! The odor is sicking! The way they take care of the patients is by doping them up to the max! So they are all slumped over in their wheelchair's! Probably not being changed! What away of life for our veterans!!! They keep my dad doped so they don't have to take him to the chapel on Sunday morning! Shame o

Like the prior lady mentioned beware because I cannot mention how many issues there have been at this home. Excuses are made at every situation and frankly the administration and most of those in power there should be ashamed to be in health care. This is a place where they encourage drugging people up and sedating them to the point where they have no life left or spark left— done all for their convenience and to make their jobs easier. My loved one was sent to the ED twice in less than a month because they did not want to deal with the situation and they hoped the hospital would admit but both times was sent right back as medically cleared. They do not like when things are not in heir 1000% control as the ones at top are very power driven. So they will create whatever excuse to keep

Visited my uncle he had been there about 2months. The entire facility was filled with happiness the veterans talking about everything. War injuries,memories, current issues and politics. The staff and caregivers are so polite and helpful .
