Though the medical professionals at this office are very good, their front desk staff destroyed the trust I had in the practice. They believe they are the final authority on collecting bills, despite not having any understanding of those bills. At my 1 month post-surgery appointment, a clueless and arrogant young woman insisted I needed to submit a copay and payment for the surgery. When I questioned the amount, she insisted it was “true.” After getting her supervisor involved, it turned out the surgery charge had not yet been submitted to my insurance, and I did not owe any copays during the 90 days following the surgery. Excellent experience overall. Staff professionalism exemplary, in particular Scott in providing (repeated) explanations to a patient with Alzheimer's Disease. Only problem was long wait due to emergencies (and feeling badly about being seen by the doctor before emergencies). Did not mind waiting (2 hrs) but lucky we did not have other upcoming appointments. Appreciated friendliness and tolerance of other patients/caregivers, esp. comments on the time of their appointment/check-in and how long they had waited. Thank you, Mid Atlantic Retina, for being here in the suburbs. The services and care are very much needed!

Dr. Yonekawa is an excellent doctor. I’ve been his patient almost 3 yrs. He is so knowledgeable and has amazing bed side manners. He has made my treatment very manageable. I trust him and know he has played a big role in my eye healing.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this place at all, and I’m genuinely surprised by the high ratings. We’ve now been turned away twice due to poor communication and a clear lack of care. First, we were told we had an appointment on 6/10. We showed up, and were turned away by a staff member. The appointment card we were given clearly said 6/10, but we were told, “Maybe it’s an 8, not a 0.” We were then told to come back on 6/18. We did, only to be told they’re not taking patients. Two wasted trips, zero accountability, and negative professionalism. Beyond a disappointing experience.

Dr Yonekawa gives straight forward advice. He will answer any questions with honesty. I usually see him for my continued care. I also had an emergency and saw Dr. Uhr for a retina tear as well as Dr. Cohen. This place is amazing. They called me within 5 minutes of my Dr. Recommending I go there for the tear. I couldn't be I better care. Thanks to all the front desk people for being so efficient.
