Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital: Emergency Room

The nursing staff was nice and understanding. I had to walk out because Dr. Okeakpu. He is awful and dismissive. I was put in a room at 11:57 after being checked in and triaged about an hour prior. I was then moved to another room and was prepped and told to wait for the doctor and that he would be in shortly. About an hour later he popped in and asked about my situation then walked out after I confirmed what was going on and asked if he was coming back. He said yes then left my door open when there is a clear sign on the door in the room saying to keep it closed to maintain privacy of patients. I went to look out to see if he was coming back after about 20 mins and he was at his desk eating his meal around 1245-1:00am. I went out to the staff to express that I needed to get home to my

I waited 3 hours for the doctor say I was fine. My whole right breast turned black due to infection. Then waited 58 minutes for discharge paperwork. When I brought To the nurse’s attention that I have been waiting over for an hour for discharge paperwork she spoke to the doctor and the doctor proceeded to get irate That I would even asked for discharge paperwork. The nurse had to literally calm the doctor down from screaming and proceeded to tell the nurse that seeing his patient were more important than discharge paperwork..

Both times I have had to visit the ER we have had the same dr. Once for me where they refused to listen to my complaint, told me I had covid, tried to administer a pain killer shot without my consent or knowledge and without asking if I was pregnant or nursing (I was nursing), and sent me home after being so condescending and patronizing. Turns out I had a 4 cm tumor growing on my kidney (kidney pain was my complaint) and I had to have surgery to have it removed 2 months later. They didn't run a single test to even check my kidneys while I was there like they should have. My urologist said I was incredibly lucky it hadn't burst. The second time I had to go there was for my 3 year old son's arm. We thought it was broken, and the while the nursing staff was excellent, as was the x-ray tech,

I'd give this emergency room one star if I could, but it would be a disservice to the nurses! They were lovely. The doctor on call, however, lacked good bedside manner and was very dismissive of my medical complaint. He was very rude! He also didn't seem to care about treatment and just seemed to want to get me out of his ER. I'd recommend heading into Columbus if you can instead.

I was seen quickly and the staff were polite and helpful. I did have to stay for just under six hours but I was okay, as I was hooked up to antibiotics. Even with their help, I knew I had to return my doctor, then spent four days in the hospital with a bad post surgery infection. Not fun but if they had not started the I.V. antibiotics at Hughston it may have been a greater problem. So, hats off to each and everyone at Jack Hughston, a hospital where heroes do indeed work.
