I am sure that Ms. Hecht provides competent to excellent psychotherapy to the majority of her patients. I am equally confident that for a significant fraction, she performs erratically, departs from her own usually sound professional ethics, and may do harm that need not be done to the patient. Such was the case with me. Ms. Hecht strove to help me – and did, in multiple ways. However, my case apparently presented issues that Ms. Hecht completely misunderstood, or which made her uncomfortable in some way - perhaps in several. Even experienced therapists are at times in need of supervision; I sense that she may not know when she is in difficult waters, or lacks the humility to know. In defensive mode, she lost control of her ‘instrument’; this resulted in a traumatic end to the treatment.
