F. Lee Hartsell III, MD, MPH

I have been going to Dr. Hartsell for my vestibular migraines for almost three years now and I am very pleased with both his office and the level of care from him. Dr. Hartsell always listens, discusses, spend the time I feel is appropriate. I never feel rushed. In my 70s I have little tolerance for bad doctors or feeling rushed and Dr. Hartsell is one one of my favorites. I trust him. If I have a question in-between appointment he is responsive on the Portal. I can't ask for a better doctor. I consider myself lucky that when I called Duke and it was determined that I probably had vestibular migraines and assigned a doctor I ended up with Dr. Hartsell.

I saw Dr. Hartsell twice. My first visit was ok as he was meeting me for the first time and the visit was for an assessment of my condition and making a diagnosis masked on my symptoms. He ordered Bloodwork and an MRI and also referred me to a pain management specialist. At my follow up visit to discuss the results of my MRI and bloodwork. He just came right out and told me that my symptoms were due to sedentary lifestyle and I just blame my illness on society gearing us towards living a sedentary lifestyle. I have never and still do not live a sedentary lifestyle. He never mentioned my lab results, he barely mentioned the MRI, basically he just told me in a nutshell that I have degenerative disc disease due to being lazy. Very disappointed in the care recieved from Dr. Hartsell. I want to preface this review by stating that I was assigned a doctor when I called the scheduling line for an appointment, I did not get to choose my provider. Dr. Hartsell does not respond to patient messages through the MyChart portal. I've only been a patient of his since January and already this has happened on three separate occasions. After the second time, he actually addressed his lack of follow through at my appointment, apologized, and promised he would do better next time. I took him at his word. He ended up wanting to consult a colleague for advice on my prescription/condition and how it might impact my fertility and promised he would reach out to me on the portal within a week of my appointment. 7.5 weeks later, still

My wife and I cannot say enough positive things about Dr Hartsell. He was so personable and had great bedside manner. He explained everything so well. He is one of the best specialists we've had over the past 12+ years. The staff were just as friendly. Definitely recommend this clinic if you are needing a Neurologist.

Dr. Hartsell is wonderful. He spends time answering every question I have—and he is able to answer them all. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and I trust him to handle my neurological care. He doesn’t have a God complex like so many other neurologists do. I’m very picky about doctors and I went through several neurologists before choosing Dr. Hartsell. I think my favorite thing about him is that he really listens to me and then takes the time to explain things and help me understand it all.
