Excelcare at Dover

The Five star CMS rating on your website needs to be updated to one star, the current CMS rating. The five star rating was for the Regency Grande which was a superb facility. Once sold the cleanliness, staffing and medical care completely declined. Having a loved one there for many years I can attest to the changes.

Making the decision to place my father in a nursing home was one of the most difficult and painful decisions I have ever had to make. Culturally, placing a parent in a care facility is often frowned upon, and I struggled deeply with guilt, even feeling like a bad daughter for having to make that choice. However, my father’s quality of care was declining, and with work and raising two children who depend on me, it became increasingly hard to provide him with the level of support he truly needed. When my father was still strong, he expressed his wishes clearly, that if his health declined, he wanted us to place him in a care facility where he could be properly cared for. My Dad has had to spend time at Excelcare for rehabilitation two times after separate problems. Each time I have been very happy. The facility is not new, but they are on top of keeping the place CLEAN and functioning. I give the staff a lot of credit for being attentive to my Dads needs and staying on top of all needs. I highly recommend this facility!

On Mother’s Day 2025, my grandmother died because this facility failed her when she needed care most. I was her primary point of contact, yet critical warning signs were minimized, dismissed, or never clearly communicated to me. On Monday of that week, her floor nurse, Dawn, told me my grandmother was refusing routine bloodwork but reassured me she was otherwise “fine.” On Friday, Dawn called again to say my grandmother was still refusing bloodwork, was not feeling well, and that the staff were concerned about a possible infection. She later called back to say the bloodwork had been obtained. When I visited that same day, my grandmother was extremely disoriented and clearly not herself. I’d originally given this place 4*, I take them all back. only given this star so I can post. The food they serve is Horrible; I wouldn’t serve it to my dog! When you call, they don’t answer. Once you get there, they are all happy go lucky. I had to cook & bring my husband food because his was frozen in the middle half heated. They are Short on staff. One person that was truly doing her job could not be in all places at all times. My husband hadn’t had bodily functions & no one told me anything. When he had doctor’s appointments, they were late getting him there due to the transportation. It is a mess there. Do Not put your family member here. This is the worst place!
