My PCP referred me to an Endocrinologist I had in our small beach community who left and took.a position with Duke. I am not eligible for services because I don't fit into her research specialty. These large universities do great research to advance and improve the eventual outcome of patients. However, as a patient, I have accepted that in these large settings, we're nothing more than lab mice. I'll keep searching for a private practice that still actually treats PATIENTS. So long!

DO NOT GET YOUR BLOOD LABS DONE HERE!!!! I was referred to this practice and it took 3 months to get an initial appointment. I enjoyed my visit with Catherine Swandby Shuford, NP. She was friendly and very helpful, which is why I am giving this practice 3 stars. I was sent to their in-house phlebotomist who acted as though she was racing against the clock. I didn’t hate getting my blood taken before but now I do. Finally, I was billed $201 (after insurance) for the physician visit. Fine. Then I was billed $475 (after insurance) for the blood labs. This typically cost me $20 at my previous practice and at Labcorp. I recommend looking up the cost of your service prior to visiting Duke Health.

I’ve been a patient here for many years although I’ve liked my experience to a point recently. It’s become ridiculous. I’ve been having to wait a year to see my doctor a year for an appointment with started happening recently. Is Duke either somebody at Duke or the Duke automated system has been transferring my appointment and not notifying me. They did it four times. I ended up showing up on my appointed day only to be told. My appointment has been moved to the next week, it showed in their system I didn’t do it. They did it. They refused to see me or work in. . I have major issues that were emergent. I needed to get an exam and certain paperwork because I needed to have custom insoles made, or I would have to undergo an amputation. Told the nurse this and laughed. They were supposed to

Good doctors/PAs but trying to reach the nurse station/doctor by phone (Clinic 1A Duke South) is virtually impossible. As an update on 5/24 from my 2020 review. I haven’t tried to reach by phone since my last review so hopefully the phone situation has improved. I use MYCHART to communicate with my PA. I normally get a response within a day or two.

First of all be careful when having blood work done here because they will code it as an outpatient procedure and a lot of insurances won’t cover that until the deductible is met. I was charged 1700 for routine blood work. So I started getting it done at labcorp instead and they scheduled an appointment for me at the clinic after I told them I wasn’t having my blood taken there again. I called them and told them to cancel it immediately. They said they did and would fax over the information to labcorp but they did not. I called them back again and had to wait on hold for 20 min. before I spoke to a nurse who finally fixed it but they did not tell me I would need to fast for 12 hours before I had my blood work done. I am very unhappy with this hospital which is sad because I had such high
