Statistically this is happening at the highest rate to black mothers so avoid avoid moms ! As a Black mother, I want to share my personal experience at CHOP King of Prussia so other families can make informed decisions. I brought my newborn for evaluation. My baby remained stable for many hours, with normal vital signs and reassuring imaging. Waited 1.5 hours to see the doctor for a quick evaluation on foot development and was told to next time not schedule around so many complex cases (when that's impossible to know as the patient. ) Of course they proceed to bill the full amount, quoting contracts with the health insurance company. So no matter how poor of a service is provided, they don't care as they will get paid no matter what. As a specialty hospital for children, there is also no incentive to do better as doctors refer here. Clearly they hold all the power, where patients are left to their mercy. No care about making BABIES wait such long times, no care about throwing schedules for BABIES off the whole day. Went for an evaluation after my one year old son has had frequent ear infections, and the pediatrician suggested an ENT evaluation. We saw the PA/NP first and then had to answer all the same questions for the surgeon. Everyone was nice and professional but repetitive. It was a 15 minute appointment in which we decided nothing was necessary at this time. They billed my insurance over $800 and we have a $650 bill now 🥴

Besides the spacious and colorful building with amenities, there are many good doctors who take their time to explain all details to a very basic level about all possible explanations and/or treatments to helps me making my decision as a parent. The PT department is amazing. We had a great and helpful experience with Julie Dyke. She is the best. Not forgetting Dr. Matthew Grady with a calming eye blink that says everything will be ok. He is a sports medicine pediatrician there.

We went one time because CHOP KOP is so much closer to our house. After one visit that was a disaster, we returned to Philadelphia for all of my daughter's treatment. Tried one additional visit to the KOP ER - disaster. Will never go back.
