Ultimately, the care I received was exactly what I needed. My provider and nurse were excellent. They introduced themselves and their roles, and were thorough and caring. The triage experience was less than desirable. No one introduced themselves, no one seemed interested in finding out the reason for my visit. I had to keep correcting the girl taking my information because she was absolutely not listening. Information was entered incorrectly and had to be corrected once my nurse took over. That entire process left me feeling vulnerable. I'm thankful the experience changed once I was in the care of my provider.

This is Gwen Brooks Perkins, the patient’s sister. My brother passed away in the ER in the early morning hours of Dec 6th. The staff was absolutely wonderful to us. They not only took care of him in his end of life care, but took care of us, his family. I was in charge of making all of the decisions. When a new development came up, they explained all of my options and let me decide what I thought was best. My brother had chosen not to be put on any life sustaining equipment but wanted to be kept comfortable. He had oxygen and did not appear to be in any pain. After an extremely discouraging and stressful experience at the ER in Starkville, this hospital completely restored our faith in emergency medical care. From the moment we arrived, the difference was night and day. The staff immediately treated the situation with urgency, compassion, and professionalism. They actually listened to my girlfriend’s medical history, her symptoms, and her pain instead of brushing it off or making her feel ignored. That alone meant everything to us after what we had just gone through elsewhere. One star only because I can’t give zero. I arrived 10 weeks pregnant with active bleeding and pain. I was left in the waiting room for over two hours. While still waiting, my bleeding became significantly worse as I sat in the chair. When I was finally taken back for an ultrasound, I miscarried during the exam. I was crying and in shock. I asked the ultrasound tech to call my husband, who was forced to stay in the waiting room, but she never did. Less than five minutes after miscarrying, I was told there was “no room” for me and was brought back into the waiting room, with no privacy, no support, and no compassion, while I was actively grieving and bleeding.
