Autumn Lake Healthcare at Chevy Chase

Our mother has been residing at Autumn Care Chevy Chase for a year. We have been very impressed with how she is cared for and attended to. Our family frequents the facility weekly and are always greeted kindly and feel like our mother is being well cared for. It has been an adjustment for all of us moving our mother to Autumn Care full time but it is what she wanted. She enjoys socializing with the other patients as well as the staff. Our mother loves her room, it is clean and if ever we request deeper cleaning the staff handles it. Any concern later that arise, the staff is quick to call our family making sure that someone is notified immediately. We are thankful and appreciative of the personal touch the staff always have with our mother. It gives our family comfort knowing she is care

This place is horrible. It is unsanitary, neglectful, and unprofessional. You can never get an update or any type of call back from the social workers regarding care plan meetings, doctors or directors. My mother was sent her from a hospital for rehabilitation and put in a dirty room with another resident who has the television and radio on all day and night consistently. The facility is crowded to the point that four residents have to share 1 bathroom. I have left voice messages for her social worker Ms. John and still haven't received any call backs. These facilities only care about the money and not the residents. I will never recommend this Facility. I can go on and on about this place but I'm not. Do your research before sending a loved one to a nursing home.

I just learned the Nursing Home has a new administrator. I'm hoping she will be able to see and/or be informed of changes that need to be made and that corporate gives support especially financial to do so. I won't publicly share areas that they are falling short on because I have a loved one who is a resident there,. I will say that if you are looking for a place for a loved one, keep your eyes open. Talk to the residents iand/or family members if you can. I will say the nursing staff and aids seem to have the Patient's care and comfort a priority. They could use a more specialized therapists who can work with patients on a more regular basis. Stay involved, be vocal, be seen and always pray.

Today I tried to ask a simple procedural question at Autumn Lake Chevy Chase — how to email a required authorization form so I can assist a resident with medical matters. Every call was met with transfers to unrelated voicemails or sudden hostility. No anger at all from me, just confusion and a request for a functioning email addres

First off, the photos on Google and the facility’s website are wildly outdated. They must be at least 10 years old. What you see online is not what you’ll walk into — the place is run down and in poor condition by comparison. The first thing that hits you is the overwhelming smell of feces and urine. I believe this is largely due to staff shortages. The facility is clearly understaffed, especially at night and on weekends. With many residents requiring regular diaper changes, it’s not uncommon for people to be left sitting in their own waste for hours. It’s heartbreaking. The food is another low point — it looks bad and tastes worse. If your loved one ends up in a double room, prepare for cramped conditions.
