Atlas Healthcare at Maywood

Our family’s experience with Atlas Healthcare at Maywood has been unacceptable. A loved one with an advancing case of Parkinson’s was admitted after a fall, simply to be stabilized and have her medications adjusted. Instead, what we witnessed was neglect, poor conditions, and a lack of basic medical attention. Physical therapy was never prescribed. A simple urine analysis was never collected. The facility itself appears poorly maintained, with outdated and cheap patient room equipment and an obvious lack of cleanliness and upkeep. Even worse was how patients were treated. Our loved one waited nearly an hour after calling for a nurse just to be helped to the bathroom. That is not care — that is a failure to provide basic dignity. This is the third rehab facility that I have been in and by far it is the best in my opinion. The admissions process was handled quickly and efficiently, Cristine the admissions director was wonderful, handled my transfer from Hudson Regional hospital to Atlas. The concierge made me feel at home, in fact EVERYONE treated me like family. The aides were all fantastic and very caring, Mariella is a powerhouse and Geo and Joan always looked in on me even if they weren't on my schedule. The rehab team made me stronger than I have been in years, I especially liked Helen who challenged me and Ken my OT therapist. If I could give this facility less than one star, I definitely would. My grandmother has Parkinson’s. She has had it for about 9 years, and is in the later stages, with memory loss and confusion. She was transferred to Atlas after being in the hospital for a fractured lower back. She has been in this facility before it became Atlas, so my family and I had thought that she would be given the same level of care she was given in the past. Boy, were we wrong. As I am writing this, she has been at Atlas for 5 weeks, and it has been nothing but absolute torture for her and my family. Good experience visiting a friend! Parking was easy although during the daytime I am sure is better. Updated sign in was assisted by a lovely young girl. So polite and helpful. The staff seems to be knowledgeable of patients. Olga was very helpful. Side was a true gentleman. Clean and efficient! Impressed!
