Ascension St. Vincent - Heart Center

I had an amazing stay. All the staff from nursing to housekeeping was exceptional and very caring. Nursing called my doctor immediately with any difficulty in my situation, call lights answered within a minute or two. Techs were very helpful and surgical team was exceptional as well and kept me at ease during my procedure. Would recommend this hospital to everyone. Thank you all for my care. I had a nurse walk right beside me to put my mind at ease the day prior to my surgery.

Impressive atmosphere and excellent experience. Staff members were pleasant and engaged with me and my family. One staff member was off the chart in pleasantry, efficiency and effectiveness: PA Hannah. Needless to say, did not encounter any staff who were less than excellent during my 4 day stay.

Our experience was a nightmare with poor communication and case management very uncaring. Our mother was sent home on hospice after seventeen days and told their was nothing more that could be done after a failed surgery that caused a tear in the tissue in her valve causing severe leakage into her lungs that was never explained to the family could be a possibility prior to surgery which could of allowed us a reason not to have the surgery. We were told this was a 95 percent success rate. Total of seventeen days spent mostly here to stabilize her after the surgery was performed faulty. Our mom was giving the news that she didn't have much time to live with no family present for her to process this on her own and was sent home with no preparation. I received excellent care in the hospital from both nursing and physicians. Particularly Dr Ball, Dr Veerkamp and Dr Munoz. THe cardiac cath lab staff was also very respectful and reassuring. I would like to call out a non medical staff member, maintenance worker Cynthia B, who found me in the morning very upset after a doctor visited and speculated that I had a horrible condition that it turns out I didn’t have - but she came in my room to clean and I asked her to pray with me u til my family got there. She was an amazing human being, so reassuring and kind. It’s people like that who are sometimes the most incredible touchpoints for patients.

Recently had heart bypass graft surgery at St. Vincent’s Heart Hospital. The physician and PA staff were excellent. More enlightening to me was the excellent, caring, and personalized nursing care I received which was also exceptional and with what seemed to be appropriate staffing levels even on the weekend. The weekend care to me was excellent nursing and even their tech nursing support was caring and encouraging. I was struck by how thorough the medical staff were, and how well they managed a “grumpy old retired physician” like me. Thanks and best wishes to all involved. I’m doing great!
