Watauga Medical Center

I don't know how to properly thank the team at this hospital. I was on vacation in Boone when I ended up in the ER on Tuesday, 12/16, with a badly broken ankle. I was a stranger in a new town, in pain, and terrified, but the staff here changed everything. The ER was efficient and kind, but it was Dr. Tim and Dr. Gray (the Ortho PA) who really stood out. Dr. Gray was such a nice guy and every bit as fantastic as everyone said he was. He never rushed, spoke with calm clarity, patiently answered every question, and even took the time to get on the phone with my family to ensure we all understood the next steps, the severity of the injury, and the recovery timeline. The staff on the 4th floor took care of my father, and basically our whole family while he was hospitalized for a week at 92 years old. Their kindness, patience and compassion will never be forgotten. Nurse Madeline, nurse Courtney and countless others will never be forgotten. Make sure that if you have a loved one hospitalized here, that they have some one always with them. The situations that have me seeing red tonight will be shared when I can sum up all the issues that I have witnessed with my elderly parents. This hospital sent my father home after a long stay only to have him collapse and die within 6 hours of his return home. Now my elderly mom is here and they forgot to feed her tonight! When I caught onto the fact she had not been given a food tray, I rang her call bell, thirty minutes later, no one responded. After numerous complaints she was given leftovers that weren't fit for a dog. Plus--this is the NASTIEST HOSPITAL I HAVE BEEN IN. We recently had to take our special needs child to the emergency room at Watauga Medical Center, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. From the moment we arrived, every single person treated us with compassion, patience, and genuine kindness. Leslie, our provider, was absolutely amazing. She took the time to listen, explained everything clearly, and made sure both our child and our family felt comfortable and understood. Her calm, caring approach made an incredibly stressful situation so much easier. Our nurse, Mac, was equally fantastic. He was attentive, gentle, and so thoughtful in the way he interacted with our child. He checked on us often and made sure we had everything we needed. My husband was admitted a week ago for observation and then surgery. We both were very impressed with all of the staff. Everyone, from housekeeping to the Doctors, were very professional and personable. The rooms were immaculate and the food was very good. This week, for the first time ever, for both of us, we received a "Thank You" note, from our nursing staff! They thanked us for letting them take care of our medical needs! Quite Amazing 😍
