VCA Elgin Family Pet Center

VCA Elgin has been our vet for the past 6 years. Staff is excellent. Care is exemplary. Pricing is in line for the area. They were very compassionate when our miniature schnauzer Julie had cancer and have helped our other dogs stay healthy with annual exams and vaccinations.

Newly moving to Elgin about 2 years ago, it was hard to leave our former vet VCA Hometown as we love the staff and vets there. I’m so glad we found VCA Elgin which seems like an extension to already great care we had in pville. We fully trust VCA Elgin staff with our weenies care and well-being. Dr. Metcalf is an excellent vet and has a great bedside manner for our pups. They are upfront about costs which we appreciate and they are always willing to discuss options with us. Four dogs is a lot to afford as far as vet care, but I always feel like we get the best care for the price here at VCA Elgin. Thank you VCA Elgin staff for your care and compassion towards our fur babies!

Supposedly high-quality care which will cost you hundreds of dollars for each visit. The office requires you to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment, but then you still have to wait in the lobby 20-30 minutes before you proceed to the exam room. I had my pet's nails trimmed once, but he got hurt to the point of bleeding on my arm when he was returned to me. The meds prescribed to my pet costs double what was charged at another clinic and were not effective. I moved from out of state, and this was the most convenient location. Due to their outrageous costs, and mediocre treatments, I am forced to find other "professional" care for my pet. Why keep going to a service which is financially draining, and not effective in your pet's treatment?

My wife and I were very anxious about transferring vet clinics when we moved to Elgin, as I used to work in vet med and that can sometimes make it difficult to trust veterinary staff (and can sometimes make me a bit neurotic and irritating as a customer). I have three dogs, one of which is 16 years old and extremely needy, so the care plan has really been a life saver financially. The front desk staff is great, and I’m in there often enough that they recognize me and my dogs. I’ve never before had dogs that hated going to the vet, but unfortunately all three of my current pups heartily dislike going (not VCA’s fault- the chihuahuas are jerks and my lab is an anxious mess in any new situation). I have used several vet clinics in my life with my animals and i have to say that this place is the easiest place to go. They don't make you feel bad because you cannot afford to spend $500. They do what they can for your animal, within the budget you can afford to spend. While I would be willing to pay ANY amount to save my EXTREMELY precious and LOVED animals, sometimes it is not in my power. Thank you for always seeing my babies (animals), even on sudden and short notice. Thank you Elgin Vet Staff, for always helping us keep our babies (animals) healthy and alive. Also, thank you for helping us to say goodbye to past cherished babies (animals) when it was their time.
