VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System Emergency Room

During our visit to the emergency department, my husband was experiencing extreme and unbearable pain. He was visibly shaking and crying, yet the overall sense of urgency from the nursing staff assigned to his care felt lacking. We were informed there was a delay due to medication verification by the pharmacy; however, even after verification, responses remained slow while his pain continued to escalate. While the front desk and intake staff were professional, kind, and attentive, our experience with the nursing care was markedly different. My husband’s questions were often not directly addressed, which left us feeling ignored and unsure about his care plan. I have been coming to this VA HOSPITAL for 3 years. I bring my partner for she is the veteran! I wish they would treat her better and find out why her pain is bad instead of giving pain killers...Every time we come its a typical 3/4 hour wait! Today has been the most longest wait ever! The girls in front were nice and respectful. Now when you arrive inside the hospital rooms, expect nurses to take out there stress on you. Doctors don’t sit and communicate as they should. Some Nurses can be very rude and disrespectful. I get it it’s busy and there’s a lot to do. My one least favorite thing is that the doctor and nurse are never in the same page! Like why? Visited the VA of Southern today for an eye and headache issue. First time at the VA ER and I was not disappointed. Facilities were nice, staff were friendly and accommodating. The Wait was not unlike most private ERs I’ve visited. I had to get an imaging scan so I was there for a few hours but overall I was very satisfied with the visit. I was nervous about coming here but I’m glad I did. I’ll be back for regular appointments. A bit of a drive but all-in-all very satisfied. Thank you VA of SN!

The unprofessional and unacceptable treatment my boyfriend had received by a couple specific er associates is unbelievable. He was brushed off and disregarded by them as they made us feel he was unimportant and a waste of time. The comments and blatant repulsive behavior displayed was nothing I have ever seen before in a medical facility and has left me in disgust. Not to mention their insubordination and pushback to the PA was just shocking and to me and should not be tolerated. The VA should be a place where Veterans should be able to seek excellent care but the experience my boyfriend endured was extremely uncalled for and I do not recommend coming here because of it. I've been in the VA system for over 20 years, the Denver VA could learn A LOT from this one here in Las Vegas! They are on top of it here. Their service is stream lined. They are quick to get you into their system and quick to get you to the specialist you need. I have great care in the dental clinic and in all the specialty clinics. I don't wait months to be seen either. If they can't see you within a couple of months, they send you to a civilian doctor at no cost to you. I got excellent oral surgery downtown when I first moved here because I broke a molar... great care. I got new glasses very quickly and in the latest styles which is great.
