Steven Hughes

My elderly mother was referred to Dr. Steven Hughes by her neurologist in Fairfax, VA. Dr. Hughes came highly recommended. I was told by the referring physican that Dr. Hughes is one of top orthopedic surgeons in the area. He did not disappoint. He was able to diagnose the cause of my mother's leg and foot pain pretty quickly during the initial consultation (we took some X-rays during the visit). She had been experiencing pain for over a year. We followed Dr. Hughes treatment plan and now my mom's level of pain has decreased going from a 10 (very painful) to a 1 or 2. I also love that many resources are available in the same building. Physical therapy is located on the same floor as Dr. Hughes office. The pain specialist, is located on the 1st floor.

I was referred to Dr. Hughes and my one visit with him was the most negative experience I’ve had with a medical professional in my life. He was rude and dismissive. He didn’t want to hear the history of my pain and the various steps I’d taken previously to figure out what was causing it. He didn’t try to explain anything to me and when I asked him questions to get clarification, he seemed inconvenienced. He may be a decent surgeon, but his attitude and bedside manner was horrendous. I reported my experience with him to OrthoVirginia. To their credit, a patient advocate contacted me and told me they take these complaints seriously. I don’t know what action, if any, was taken but I highly recommend that if you’re seeking an orthopedic surgeon who listens and is compassionate to look elsewher
