Starling Physicians Vernon Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine

This is a really wonderful pediatric office. The physicians, PAs, and APRNs are very caring and attentive to their patients and explain things really well to parents. The staff is professional and caring, and very down to earth. We have been coming to this office for 15 years and we are very happy with them. They have a receptionist, Jen, who checks patients out, and she is literally the most caring and detail oriented human being that I have ever met. She is the reason that I was moved to write this review. The world needs 1000 more Jens!

I’ve had a deeply disappointing experience with Vernon Pediatrics / Starling Physicians. My son has been a patient there since birth and is now 6 months old. As a younger sibling to a 1st grader, he has had a virus almost every other month. During these times he had fevers, vomiting, and other symptoms that excused him from being vaccinated and in turn, fell slightly behind on his vaccination schedule. After mutually agreeing with the office staff and doctors on a modified vaccination plan to get caught up, I was repeatedly harassed and lectured at nearly every visit. Instead of focusing on the CDC’s recommendations to NOT vaccinate while sick, particular doctors (Dr Washburn) and staff created an environment of judgment and intimidation, treating me like an “anti-vaxxer” and insinuatin

Do NOT go here. Two weeks ago we took my 1 year old daughter here because she had an ear infection. My husband got spoken to with so much disrespect by a specific male nurse about vaccines. For the record, my daughter has some vaccines, but we're delaying others. When my husband asked which vaccines are legally required he said none, but they are required for school. To which my husband replied she's only 1 so we're not worried about that. My husband also asked for pamphlets and said he'd like to take time to research the vaccines. They told him that was fine but he needed to schedule an appointment ASAP and get her caught up on her vaccinations or she'll be dropped from the practice. We scheduled a routine physical for our daughter, which should be fully covered by insurance with no co-pay. To our surprise, we received a $50 bill afterward. When we contacted the office, they claimed it was because the visit “lasted longer than expected.” At no point during the appointment were we told there was a time limit or that additional charges might apply. This was not transparent, and we feel misled. We hope the office reconsiders this billing practice and improves communication with patients about what is and isn’t billable.

Not sure where all the complaints are coming from. I wouldn't say this place is above and beyond but they are your average doctor's office. We have always been able to get in for same day appointments or talk to a nurse about a concern. My daughter's doctor has been good. She is always kind and professional. The lady at the desk is always kind so I was surprised to see people claim she was rude. My daughter is a really hard one to get for the vaccines but they do a great job trying to coach her and get her to relax. It isn't working so far but I appreciate their patience and effort. Maybe someday will be a drama free appointment! I wasn't so great myself when I was that age. I kicked my doctor in the ribs and knocked the wind out of him. Kids will be kids.
