Shamblott Family Dentistry - Hopkins

The female dentist did a great job and was kind and personable. I felt very well looked after and cared for. The male Dr did a great job but suggested I get four crowns on my front teeth that I obviously didn't need but he said they would like great. Loved how eager he was to spend my money. My insurance had a 3 thousand dollar allowance for out of pocket dental work which I was told would cover everything I needed done. When I showed up today to finish my dental work they said it didn't cover today's appointment and if I wanted it done I had to pay close to 800 dollars up front and no they could not bill me, but after Jan 1 when my dental insurance renewed they could take it out of that 3000 dollars. Dr Shamblott was welcoming and the technology they have is first class. The staff all made me feel relaxed in what I normally would consider myself waiting for dental work...simply a wreck! Dr Shamblotts demeanor also made me feel very comfortable as opposed to past dental consults that were...cold and uncaring. I believe I've found my forever dentist family.

As opposed to my very pleasant five star experience at the Shamblott St. Paul location, I had a very “meh” experience at Hopkins. My hygienist was polite and knowledgeable, informing me and doing a check in mid procedure about the numbness use and informed me about aftercare, this review is not on my experience with her. However what made my experience a little worse than St. Paul was an equipment mishap as their device for deep cleanings was not producing any water. My hygienist tried trouble shooting on her own and apologized as she got another person to assist. If I remember correctly the name of the person that came over was either Liv/Liz, and she was unable to fix it either and water was still not coming out. My son came for an appointment because this place claims to be friendly to patients with dental anxiety and they offer sedation. He was quoted one price for his visit and when we got there the price more than doubled. He was told to come back for a follow up and to look at the rest of his teeth and was charged in advance for the service. However, when we got there they tried to convince him that he has advanced gum disease. An 18 year old who has seen a dentist every 6 months since he got teeth suddenly has advanced gum disease that requires surgery? Don’t think so. He told them he couldn’t handle all that that day and left. They told him they would not charge as much for the appointment yet did not refund ANYTHING because it turns out they were going to YET AGAIN charge him more. He came

I chose this dentist based on recommendation that they worked very well for people with dental phobias. I had not been to a dentist in over 15 years due to two bad experiences. After my initial exam, they advised a deep cleaning (in two sessions) and getting two flossing cavities filled. The first deep cleaning was yesterday, immediately followed by the cavity appointment; the cleaning was fine but the cavities were terrible. I agreed to nitrous oxide since that would "assist with anxiety", but I made it clear that I wanted a low dose since I am mostly anxious about not being in control. 20 minutes into the procedure, the dentist left the area.
