I recently gave birth to my perfect baby girl at Sentara Albemarle. Due to pregnancy complications my birth did not go to plan but the amazing staff in labor and delivery made it as perfect as it could have gone. Special shout out to my delivery nurse Anna. She was an absolute angel and took such great care of me. Her support meant the world to me during a challenging time. My night nurse Tracy was also amazing. She was so helpful with breastfeeding tips and very thorough with her job. I could tell how much experience she has as a L&D nurse. I had a great experience with my delivery midwife Damaris. I just recently had a baby at SAMC. All of the staff were such a pleasure to work with. The Nurses were compassionate and understanding, and the Doctors were very professional and informative. Everyone was amazing. I would specifically like to acknowledge a few staff members: labor and delivery nurses Blair, Alison and Alicia. Dr. Parva and Dr. Schmitt as well as Midwife Kristen Crocker! As a healthcare provider myself, I fully understand the importance of good bedside manner and high quality healthcare. Unfortunately, my experience at Sentara Albemarle with my grandmother highlighted the exact opposite of the aforementioned. My 90 year old grandmother arrived in the ED late one evening in serious GI distress. While the front desk staff members were indeed kind, the nurses seemed somewhat concerned but clearly very inexperienced. I was also a resident at one point, but I do believe early career practitioners should be supervised when handling complex cases. While the GI distress needed to be handled expeditiously, the nursing team spent a lengthy amount of time attempting to give hydration vs initiating scans and addressing etiology. Was called back for diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, leading to needle aspiration or possible biopsy. The mammogram and ultrasound technicians were very caring and informative. Plus both radiologists explained everything in detail and really helped calm my anxiety. I give all 3 departments an A plus

Very disappointed in the Triage area of the ER. I got the impression they thought I was exaggerating or stupid or both. When you get asked the same question 5 times especially by someone who has access to your medical records you have to wonder what they are thinking. I even told her it was probably because I was in extreme pain that my blood pressure was through the roof. Everyone in the ER was wonderful. Grateful it wasn't full, because the wait time was still long. Want to give a shout out to the ER crew that had to come in on their day off and the crew on 4 South everyone was amazing! Thank you for being compassionate and for being great at your jobs!
