Select Specialty Hospital - Hampton Roads

I arrived at the Select Specialty Hospital with an infected bed sore after having six surgeries to remove bad tissue from the area for a six week treatment with antibiotics. It’s location made it very hard to treat.The staff made me feel very at ease from the start and this carried through the entire course of treatment. I could not have been in better hands. Carl

.I am truly disappointed with the care my mother in law is receiving at Riverside Select Specialty Hospital. She received excellent care while in the ICU however she was moved to the Select Specialty Hospital wihin Riverside Regional Medical Center and it was a horrible experience. The nurses had alot of attitude and were very curt when asked to do things for her. When she presses her call bell to get help it is ignored for too long. I asked for her sheets to either be changed or tidied and I was asked what was wrong with them. I explained that they were disheveled and she was slumped over. I have been greeted by cashiers at the grocery store than I was greeted by the nursing staff. They would drop off her food and gave no assistance with opening cutlery and packets of food. My dad was admitted to Select Specialty on a ventilator, with a trach, unable to talk or walk. Remarkably, they were able to wean him off the ventilator within a day, and his trach was removed within a week. He was even talking again during his first week there. Amanda, the physical therapist, was incredibly patient and helped build enough trust with my dad to get him taking his first steps again. Our family was very pleased with the entire staff—especially RN’s Cierra and Walter, who provided excellent care. A special thanks also goes to Michael, the case manager, for his dedication and persistence in helping get my dad into rehab. We are so grateful for the amazing team at Select Specialty.

First off let me say thank you Select Specialty for trying to get my mom off ventilator but I think you all cant handle difficult cases if the case is not cut and drop then you all are not able to figure it out. Not all bad but you all need to work on improving your staff Doctors nurses and CNA Dr. Yarborough was cool it was one other one that I liked but I cant think of her name she was knowledgeable , transparent professional and personable. On the other hand Dr Schley needs some training on tone delivery professionalism and she should not speak about a patient until she has familiarized herself with the case and actually worked with the patient she is not a favorite of mine actually she rubbed me the wrong way. This place should be shut down. My brother stayed at this facility for a month and a half. He was moved 3 times within the time he was there. The last time he was moved there had been a shooting next to his room and the bullet went through the wall into his room 1 inch from his head and all they did was move him to another room patch up the wall. No one communicated this to us. We found out from the charge nurse 2 days later. It's sickening to know that he could have been killed by a stray bullet ! Three weeks later my brother died in this place. I called to voice my concerns and no one has responded. The only time that we were notified was when my brother was declining rapidly.
