I went to my new patient visit with Nurse Practitioner Cain, and was blown away at how caring and professional she was. I have not had many good experiences with doctors or nurse practitioners in adulthood; and as such I have avoided them like the plague for almost a decade as a result. That being said Nurse Practitioner Cain put me at ease the moment she walked through the door and introduced herself. She listened carefully, asked clarifying questions to completely understand my concerns, and talked me through the next steps and labs I needed. I never once felt uncomfortable, rushed, or misunderstood when discussing my recent health concerns that led me to making this appointment or my past medical history. I had a highly unsatisfactory experience with Dr. Donald M. Millis, which I feel compelled to share. Dr. Millis exhibited significant issues with professional demeanor and communication during my consultation regarding thyroid concerns. Throughout the appointment, he displayed a lack of bedside manner and appeared both arrogant and unprofessional. During the discussion about my medication, Dr. Millis mixed up his words and became notably irritated and abrupt. His behavior escalated to the point where he abruptly left the room without a formal conclusion to our conversation, leaving the door open for me to continue discussing matters with his nurse. I recently visited Sandhills Family Medicine as a new patient. The office is located in the main Lexington Urgent care center and the volunteers directed me to my destination. The office is spacious and front staff were friendly. Nurse was great and efficient. Doctor was fantastic, listened to me and I trusted him on his suggested path for my care. Labs were on site and having online access to these labs is invaluable. Finally, checking out was a breeze and I liked the friendly banter the office staff had with each other. They appear like they enjoy working with each other (or at least they portray that ;) ) either way, my initial impression was excellent and I am pleased with my new Doctor :)

This office will not allow you to switch providers - even if you are not comfortable with your current provider. I did not like my interaction with Brittany Chestnut (Certified Physician Assistant), but when I requested to have my care transferred to another Doctor, Brittany Chestnut would not give consent. They did not care to loose our whole family as patients, due to one Assistant's stubbornness. We like the office and Dr. Millus - disappointed we have to leave.

I missed my first appointment due to work today. I was not able to cancel appointment due to meeting. I called the office to reschedule. The receptionist told me the doctor had a policy about not seeing new patients if they missed their first appointment. I apologized and told her that due to work I had to deal with an issue. The receptionist then told me she would have to get an exception. She said the doctor could have seen another patient. I then suggested that it seems money is more important than the patient. She then said thank you and hung up. Unbelievable, never in my life have I made a post like this before. Have you missed an appointment due circumstances beyond your control? Apparently the doctors at Sandhills have never missed an appointment?
