Safeway Pharmacy

I've been on a medication for 20 years. I split my time between two locations in Washington State. I moved outside Duvall and used the Safeway pharmacy for the past 8 months. Today, they called to tell me they would not be filling the doctor-sent perscription because my primary care doctor wasn't located in Duvall. I informed them that is was in Washington State and I had never had an issue before. I have never been turned away for a prescription sent in by my doctor to any pharmacy. They struggled to give me a solid reason or law why they are stopping the refill of my medication at this location. Very strange situation and very inconvenient. Super friendly staff. Recognized me as soon as I was there. My prescription was ready for pickup, no line to wait in. In and out quick!

For over two years, I’ve received acceptable service at the Duvall Safeway pharmacy. Recently, however, my experience was frustrating. I received notifications that my prescription was ready, but upon arrival, staff couldn’t find it and asked me to return later. The next day, after waiting in a long line, a rude employee struggled to locate my account, claiming it was with another Safeway, despite my two-year history. Without checking on the shelves, she said the prescription wasn’t ready and to come back in 15 minutes, which wasn’t feasible. On July 18, 2025, I returned again, a second time. The same employee ignored me until another staff member retrieved my prescription. She then silently tossed it into a bag and rang me up—no apology or acknowledgment. They refused to honor a prescription that was called in by my physician. They claimed they could not fill it due to the fact that insurance hadn't paid for it yet. They forced me to pay out of pocket, or have wait until insurance paid. This is ridiculous, and I've never heard of such a thing. They have now collected an out of pocket payment, and an insurance reimbursement (so a double payment). I feel as if this is some sort of scam on their part. How dare them get in the way of a doctor and his patient. What if this had been my heart medication, rather than a prescription anti-inflammatory. Shame on them! While pharmacists are kind when you can get a hold of them the pharmacy is regularly out of stock. Beyond the usual waiting, a line was crossed when they asked me to return a medication that works better than nothing and pay out of pocket to try a replacement. If the replacement didn't work out I'd 'volunteer' to pay again for the original prescription. To boot, Safeway advertises a discount on groceries if you get a vaccine in store but don't provide that discount after they poke you. If Safeway management is taking note by some miracle - it's clear that your pharmacists would like to be more helpful if only you would empower them with compassionate policies and additional staffing.
