Pharmacy at Boulder Medical Center

Best pharmacy experience I’ve ever had. If there is a line,which half the time there isn’t, it moves steadily. Pharmacists are accommodating, they’re personal, they’re understanding, they’re professional, they’re fast. They are the best. How often do you walk into pharmacy and feel grateful for their existence and realize you have let go of tightness in your chest that years of Walgreens and cvs left?

The prescriptions are NEVER ready for pickup, even if you call ahead or the doctor put it in several days prior. The only way they will fill a prescription is if you show up, wait in line, and then wait again to pick it up. They will often also fill the first prescription they see in your chart, rather than all the ones you need. The front desk folks are never in a particular hurry either. I understand they’re the only game in town in North Boulder, but I wish this place ran more like a commercial business with excellent customer service in mind and not like a co-op that assumes you should just be grateful for the fact they exist.

Constantly needing to check your pharmacist’s work is not a good position to be in. They consistently fill the wrong scripts, wait times are long, and doctor requests for scripts are more often interpreted as “guidance” on fill times. You will likely be asked to wait in line, wait while the script is filled, and if you call ahead to confirm the script is filled there is a high (60%+) chance you will be told that it is filled when in fact it isn’t. While I am grateful that there is a conveniently located pharmacy in North Boulder, I wish they didn’t abuse their position and ran a better business.

There are a couple of helpful, friendly and professional pharmacists here and they are what matter, but the customer experience at the check-in/register is horrendous. There is an older woman with long greying hair with a miserable demeanor who is inconvenienced by even the slightest request, and the prescriptions are NEVER ready for pickup regardless of how much notice the doctor's office provides. In the end, patients need drugs and the pharmacists here are top-notch, but be prepared to put up with a completely put-out attitude at the register.

This is the first review I’ve ever written hoping no one reads it. Because this pharmacy is one of those secrets you hate sharing but feel guilty keeping to yourself. Small, tucked away, and staffed with cool, funny, expert people who will actually try as hard as they can to get you squared away—even when you are the problem (I know, I’m “that guy” all too often—forgetting dates, wrong paperwork, there 5 min before close…). How anyone can walk into a Walgreens (the dmv of pharmacies) when there’s a gem like this is beyond me. But I hope they do, and never go here. Now that I’ve shared , I don’t have to feel guilty anymore. In fact, everyone should definitely go to Walgreens. Forget all that stuff I said before.
