PentaHealth at Mt. Airy Family Practice

I have been going to Mt. Airy Family Practice for many years. I've always been pleased with my treatment. I've had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Susan Leath, who is semi-retired. They have multiple MD's there to see if your primary doctor isn't in on a particular day. And I appreciate almost always being able to be seen on the same day or the next when you're ill. Who wants to wait for a week or two or be forced to go to urgent care when you want to feel better soon. Definitely recommend!

When my primary care doctor, who I had seen for over 15 years, retired, I was apprehensive about making a change. Dr. Lauren Kummer put my fears to rest, even though I am a senior with serious health challenges. She is patient, caring and gives me her full attention. When I am unable to see her in person due to illness, she is always available for a same-day Tela-med appointment to discuss my meds and treatment plan. I also find her staff and nurses to be professional, warm and caring. They are very responsive to patient messages on the portal. It's a blessing to know this team is there when I need them.

This is a small, neighborhood family practice where I take my son. Care here is competent and no-nonsense, but never rushed or impersonal. You don’t feel like you’re being processed through an assembly line. Wait times are short, everything is handled efficiently, and the staff are friendly, patient, and attentive.

I am extremely concerned about the safety protocols at this office after my son was given the incorrect vaccination. I had specifically discussed and ordered the correct vaccine with the doctor, scheduled an appointment for it, and verbally confirmed the vaccine with the front desk. I then confirmed it two additional times with staff, including a verbal confirmation in the room at the exact time the shot was administered. Despite all of these confirmations, the wrong vaccine was still given. This raises serious concerns about communication, verification procedures, and overall patient safety in this office.

I was there years ago and I had a great doctor. She left and a nurse practitioner took her place. I asked her for an accommodation for work and she refused. Meanwhile my blood sugar was over 500 and I just asked her if I could get my hours reduced at work so I could work on getting my blood sugar under control. She refused. I’m already on disability and I have trouble working anyway. And managing diabetes and other health issues at the same time a reduction in hours can help sometimes. I think because I was a black man and the practitioner was a black female there was an issue there. Some black people are harder on each other because of perceived weakness or fear of making someone weak. That’s really unprofessional in my opinion. People’s personal opinions shouldn’t seep into their profess
