Ochsner Children’s Health Center - River Chase

I brought my daughter in to see Dr. Shannon Powell for dizziness, fainting, and an EKG, and this doctor did not listen to my concerns. She dismissed everything I said, denied further testing, and only told my daughter to “drink more water.” She also recorded the entire visit on her phone without properly explaining or asking for consent. When I asked for a second opinion, her attitude became irritated and unprofessional. What she documented afterward had nothing to do with our visit or my daughter’s symptoms. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend her.

My family was treated respectfully and Dr. Shank was absolutely wonderful to speak with, she is very understanding. She is also very helpful and provided a lot of references to get additional care for my daughter.

Please BEWARE before bringing your children to any Ochsner facility.We have been using Ochsner for services as a family for years, but after the appointment we had with Dr.Melanie Williams, at Ochsner next to Target in Covington, we will NEVER use Ochsner facilities or services ever again. Because of the following situation: My daughter was in severe need of a psych evaluation, and instead of helping us all she did was look at me with a blank stare,stumbling all over her words because her advice was telling me to call a number for counseling services. And also that Ochsner can’t help us because Ochsner doesn’t have a psychiatrist unit for pediatrics. So I’m hoping she’s going to give me a referral in her next breath least waiting for a referral to Children’s or even suggest I bring my chi

We have 5 kids, and our last two have been the luckiest ever to have Dr King as their physician. She’s the kind of doctor that once you find, you should never leave! She is present, totally thorough, really connects with her patients, and takes the time to get to know them as people, not just a time slot. She’s the absolute best!

After having my 13 year old spend 4 days in another local hospital with scary results, I am so pleased that I took the time to get a second opinion from The Ochsner GI Pediatrics group on Jefferson highway. We were seen by Dr. Giefer and I will say I was extremely impressed. He has different ideas on what the problem could be which was less scary than a stomach mass or enlarged gallbladder. What he said made sense especially since the common symptoms he mentioned was something my son had the month prior to the emergency visit. Then to have Dr. Giefer call me personally a couple of hours later to give me results of testing was really impressive. I am looking forward to getting final testing done with Ochsner so we can put this issue to rest.
