I have had two hip replacements with NWOA. The first in late 2022 with Dr. Hanmer—it went very well and I had an easy recovery. I had a second with Dr. Kavolus mid 2025. The recovery has been much slower and more painful. I'm still on pain meds at 4 months which I would like to get off of—I've tried, but the pain remains problematic. When I went in for my 4 month follow-up and shared my pain concerns, Dr. Kavolus shrugged it off. He said my x-rays looked good and told me my pain was normal and to be expected. He told me I was remembering my first hip replacement experience incorrectly. He said I had it in my head that it was less painful, but it wasn't actually less painful because data shows that patients don't recall pain from previous surgeries accurately. I love it when doctors tell

My experience with The orthopedic department at Newton Wellesley with Alfred W. Hanmer, M.D. was horrendous, if could find a word stronger than horrendous, I would use it. He performed my original knee replacement six years ago, this did not go well at all. I had serious pain after the surgery and after seeing three doctors to find out what it was causing this pain, I finally had a bone scan saying that the bonding never held and bone fragments and loose pieces were causing the pain. I don’t understand why it took him three years to figure out I need a bone scan to find out the cause of the problem,! …..so I had to have a complete revision done. He wanted to do it a week after I received the results from the bone scan and of course I ran out of the office. I didn’t walk. As I mentioned, I

I came 10 min before the appointment time. Was brought to the exam room and left there. I left after waiting for 20 minutes because NOBODY stopped by and explained what was going on and apologized for the delay. I see it as a sign of DISRESPECT. Patient time is NOT not less valuable than doctor time. What would happen if patient was 20 minutes late?

I saw Dr. Nicky Leung for problems with both of my elbows and my overall experience was fantastic, both with Dr. Leung himself and all of the staff at NWOA. Dr. Leung is an absolute expert in his field, but he is also empathetic, down to earth, kind, caring, thoughtful, and even keeled in his approach. He listens, takes all of your information and experiences into account, and does a wonderful job providing a set of options (he never tells you only one path is the right path, which is hugely appreciated). Ultimately, after thorough analysis and testing guided by Dr. Leung, I made the choice to have Ulnar Nerve Transposition surgery on both of my elbows. My experience through both surgeries with Dr. Leung and the NWOA staff was exceptional. Top notch guidance pre-surgery, excellent surgery

I’ve been a patient of NWOA for well over 25 years and this is my first online review. My two most recent surgeries were by Dr’s Kanj and Gardiner. Both doctors and their teams were fantastic from start to finish. Everyone was top notch, professional, pleasant and fun (as much as a surgical procedure can be) to be with. They made me comfortable throughout my entire time there. I’d highly recommend NWOA and their outstanding doctors, nurses and staff.
