Metropolitan Pediatric Ophthalmology

We had a great experience at Metropolitan Pediatric Ophthalmology! Dr. Janine Smith-Marshall was thorough, professional, and took the time to explain everything clearly. The entire team was wonderful — from the front desk to the staff who helped us choose and properly fit my son's glasses. Everyone was patient, helpful, and made the visit easy and comfortable. Highly recommend this practice for excellent pediatric eye care!

Dr. Janine Smith-Marshall is excellent. Tells it like it is without the pressure to buy into expensive and unproven myopia treatments for kids that many optometrists out there are pushing. Appreciate your team’s hard work for the people of Prince George’s county!

My first review was taken down because of how honest I was. I will sugar coat it. Janine Smith-Marshall, MD is unpleasant and not good with patients. The front desk was nice but that is about it.

My child was a patient at MPO for the past 12 years. During my recent visit, the staff was rude and unprofessional. I had an issue with their new office policy that required a credit card be maintained on file. I let the receptionist know that I didn't feel comfortable given the recent data breach at another medical office. I had my insurance company contact their office to verify my coverage, but was still refused care unless I paid the entire bill upfront. Dr. Marshall was aware of the situation and ignored me. I would never recommend this practice given the lack of professional courtesy.

Dr. Smith-Marshall is one of a small number of doctors trained to perform strabismus surgery, a procedure to correct misalignment of the eyes. She also chose to specialize in the visual health of children. As a veteran of a half dozen eye surgeries, and someone who has suffered with poor vision since childhood, I know what the competent, caring practice of ophthalmology and optometry look like. Dr. Smith-Marshall is a uniquely capable practitioner, surgeon and educator in the field. At 74 years old, I'm seeing as well as I ever have.
