MercyOne Ankeny Urgent Care

The receptionist was very sweet and it was an easy process to get in. However, I went in to get strep test- then was offered an influenza and covid test when that came back negative. When waiting in the room I overheard the staff talking about me and my tests being negative, essentially making fun of patients for coming there to get tested, which I found very unprofessional.

We came in because my fiancé was having symptoms of a heart attack. The nurses and doctors were professional and helpful. The receptionist at the front desk was homophobic and completely unprofessional. She repeatedly referred to my fiancé as my “friend,” and when I corrected her and clearly stated he is my fiancé, she ignored me and continued to dismiss our relationship. In a potentially life-threatening situation, that kind of behavior is unacceptable and discriminatory. She should not be the first point of contact for patients.

The staff there are very rude and incompetent. My son came in with obvious signs of strep throat, but the way they handled it was like they were scared. They swabbed the inside of his cheek close to his lips not anywhere near his throat. Came back negative, surprise. The diagnosis was hands foot and throat, but didn’t check his hands or feet for similar signs. Oh and with that diagnosis there’s no medicine. He got worse the next day and I called telling them what’s happening and they just said can’t help. Never going there again and I am hoping no one has to go through what I did. Good news though, went to the Iowa clinic, AMAZING staff there!

This place used to do a great job. On 10/2/2025 a 20 year old goes in with a persistent cough and pink eye symptoms. After taking a copay, he was seen for about 2 minutes and dismissed with a "probably allergies" diagnosis. Then, they said they would prescribe eye drops for the pink eye. Get to the pharmacy to find they prescribed over the counter itch relief drops. I have had good experiences here with people like Dr. Lemer, but the people they've had working lately feel like they are pumping people out with no real diagnosis. Feels like a cash grab.

The front desk lady was very Polite. She acknowledged me as soon as I walked in the door and asked me She could help me. The doctor is helping me we’re very polite and attentive as to why I was there. Very considerate of my feelings. Both the waiting room and the back office and my room to be seen in or very clean. I appreciate how very caring the staff, nurses and doctors are!
