MedStar Health: Urgent Care at Hyattsville

I made an appointment for a quiet time at 10 a.m. and came in accordingly. The nurse practitioner who saw me was very kind, and overall the staff were nice. However, there is one major system-level issue that needs improvement. After arriving, I waited at the front desk for one hour, and then waited again for over another hour in a small exam room. I ended up leaving after noon. Since the free parking is limited to two hours, I had to pay $5 for parking. Even though this was not a busy time with many patients, the wait was still excessively long. To become a more competitive urgent care, the clinic should increase the number of medical providers to address this issue and improve patient flow.

It was a horrible experience, I truly felt like I was in a third world country. This location is filthy! Rx was sent to wrong pharmacy. I was in pain. I specifically told them COSTCO pharmacy was not open and wouldn’t be open on the following day which is Sunday! I was rushed out because they close at 8, I’m assuming this is the reason for not paying attention to patients. Never again!

I just moved here from DC and found this was the closest urgent care to my house. They still had several openings for appointments when I check the night before so I book one for pretty early, a little less than an hour after they opened. The waiting room was tidy, not like a lot of urgent care facilities I've seen. For a while I was the only one in the waiting room and I was told there were two people ahead of me. The wait was long but nothing out of the ordinary for an urgent care (a facility in DC would've been double the wait time). The staff were mostly all business-- I can see how some people might think it's unfriendly, but they weren't rude, just straight to the point. I had wonderful care at this location. I felt listened to and valued as a person. They were thorough with all the tests. When the results came back, the doctor was pleasant, professional and explained what I had in normal terminology so I could understand.

The wait time was on the longer side, but this is one of the first time it didn’t feel like the urgent care staff was rushing to get me out. They listened to my concerns, took all the needed tests, and immediately sent my prescriptions so I could pick them up. They’ve got a good team of people over there. Very grateful.
