Mayo Clinic Spine Center

Patient appointment/registration process is broken beyond repair. Digital coding is awful and dysfunctional. CSRs are disinterested and function is clearly understaffed. Mayo is now all about managed cost and profitability, not managed care. The mess in Jacksonville is a brand destroyer for the once proud Mayo name and an operational disgrace.

I went to mayo seeking a second opinion from my local orthopedic dr 2 hours away. Mayos process and organization was sub par. Their methods were not efficient, and I feel strongly that they requested an unnecessary amount of tests just to rack up thousands In hospital income because after every test nothing changed in their diagnosis. Ultimately they just kept sending me for more and more tests and I would have to follow up with them to ask “ok so did that tell you anything new?” Then they would just order more and more, revolving door. Eventually they requested a nerve ablation procedure that insurance denied them they basically wrote me off as a patient. I went online and filled out their form for a surgical evaluation. It took 3 days to get a response. They said they don't have any appointments available for the year and wanted to refer me to one of their alumni. I replied that as 30 year RN I've never heard of such a thing. I question if this is just a setup to send patients to their physicians who are affiliated with them through training and have suffering practices. I'll never contact these people again. Wait 3 days, I could have had an appointment with someone already this has negativity impacted my treatment as my physician is waiting to order tests that a consulting neurosurgeon would need. Waste of time.

Horrible! Sent me for PT with only doing xrays. No MRI. PT made it worse. Tried to get a follow up through their portal. Gave up after 13 days. Went to my Primary Care physician. He did mri and ultrasound! Found a lemon sized cyst on my lower back leaning on something causing pain. Don’t believe the commercials mayo Jax is not all that!!

I have been a patient at Mayo Clinic for almost 4 years now and the spine center was and is the biggest let down. The doctors at the spine center don’t actually care to figure out what is going on especially if they “don’t see anything” on imaging. Overall I would not recommend wasting time waiting for an appointment at the spine center unless you like being disappointed and not helped.
